South Carolina football players and coaches participated in a peaceful march in front of the Russell House on Monday morning to discuss and pray over social justice.

Several players spoke at a podium, which was led off by Jabari Ellis, and included a prayer by Jay Urich. The players have rallied around the phrase, “matter is the minimum.”

“No matter our social class, all blacks are fighting the same fight,” Ellis said. “Status in society does not excuse blacks from experiencing racial injustice. We are fighting for safety and equality. In the words of my brother Jay Urich, ‘matter is the minimum.'”

This organized team activity came in part because coach Will Muschamp canceled practice on Monday.

“We will have COVID testing Monday morning, and then we will go to campus and as a team demonstration,” Muschamp told reporters. “Obviously you’ve seen the video of the Jacob Blake situation in Wisconsin was a horrific situation, to a team demonstration, supporting racial equality and being totally against police brutality and our leadership group came to me on that. We want to make a statement on our campus. We’re going to do that.”
