Spencer Rattler’s arrival at South Carolina and Luke Doty’s return from injury in 2022 as his apparent backup means that the quarterback room in Columbia will see some attrition.
Unsurprisingly, Jason Brown, who eventually took over as the team’s starting QB, announced on Wednesday morning that he will enter the transfer portal. He will have 1 year of eligibility remaining.
“I want to thank my teammates for giving me some of the best moments of my life,” he wrote in a statement posted to Twitter. “We made memories I will cherish forever.”
Brown threw for 721 yards while totaling 8 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 7 games played in 2021, starting the final 4 contests of the regular season. He was 10-of-15 for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns against Auburn as the Gamecocks beat the Tigers to become bowl-eligible. That came 3 weeks after his 1st start in a Gamecock uniform, a blowout win over Florida where he was 14-of-24 for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns.
South Carolina plays North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte on Dec. 30.
Thank you Carolina. ?
