South Carolina has taken an early hit to its quarterback position.
According to The State, two sources say that Gamecocks QB Lorenzo Nuñez went down with a knee injury on Saturday that may cost him the rest of spring practice, including the Garnet & Black Spring Game.
The injury was described as a hyperextension, and the sophomore also sprained a ligament.
Nuñez, Perry Orth, freshman Brandon McIlwain, junior Connor Mitch and sophomore Michael Scarnecchia are currently in a battle for the starting job. The team will hold its next practice on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Nuñez appeared in eight games and started two as a freshman last season. He went 32 of 52 passing for 376 yards with 3 touchdowns and 3 INTs while rushing for 375 yards (6.4 yards per carry) and 2 TDs.
