South Carolina hardly got the benefit of having senior linebacker Bangally Kamara.

Kamara has decided to sit out the rest of the season to preserve eligibility and enter the transfer portal, according to a Tuesday report from GamecockCentral.com. Kamara will redshirt this season.

The 5th-year player played in only 4 games for the Gamecocks this season, which means he can redshirt and then play a 6th season at another program. Kamara had just arrived in Columbia from another program, having spent 4 seasons at Pittsburgh.

Now, he’s moving on again after recording 9 tackles, 7 of them solo, and a tackle-for-loss for South Carolina in his now brief time in Columbia. Kamara played a total of 70 snaps this season, including a season-high 30 in last Saturday’s loss to Ole Miss.

During his years with Pitt, the 6-foot-2, 229-pound Kamara played in 48 games and piled up 120 tackles, 11.5 tackles-for-loss and 5 sacks.

The NCAA transfer portal does not officially open this year until Dec. 9 and the window closes on Jan. 7, 2025.

When Kamara decides where he’s transferring to next, he’ll be playing for his 3rd program in 3 years in 2025.

The timing couldn’t be worse for South Carolina depth-wise, as the Gamecocks will now be a little shorthanded at linebacker going into this Saturday’s tough matchup at Alabama.
