Spencer Rattler discussed about how struggling early into his college career has shaped him into a better player. The South Carolina QB talked about this at SEC Media Days on Thursday with ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Rattler didn’t start his journey with the Gamecocks. He actually began his career at Oklahoma before being benched for Caleb Williams. Williams followed Lincoln Riley to USC and the rest is history.
Rattler eventually transferred to South Carolina to play for Shane Beamer.
Last season started off slow, but Rattler was able to have a strong finish in the ranked wins over Tennessee and Clemson. The young QB sees his early career struggles as a blessing, rather than a curse.
“I see it as a blessing,” Rattler said. “God has me going through this for a reason. That’s how I look at it, truly. And there can’t be success without adversity. So being able to go through that adversity and come out on the other end, it’s a great feeling.”
South Carolina won eight games last season and only lost to Notre Dame by a score of 45-38 in the Gator Bowl. The gears are turning in Columbia.
Rattler and the Gamecocks face North Carolina in the season opener on Sept. 2. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
