Spike Lee may be in the process of making an ESPN “30 for 30” film about the Missouri football players’ role in on campus protests last season, according to a report from IndieWire.

The report stems from Lee’s presence at the premier of a 30-minute documentary on the protests called “Concerned Student 1950” during the True/False Film Festival on Saturday night.

The student-made film debuted just four months after the racial equality motivated protest, which involved a short-lived boycott by the Missouri football team, forced the ousting of university president Tim Wolfe.

According to IndieWire, Lee made an unexpected appearance at the premier:

A surprise guest in the audience was Spike Lee, who Indiewire has learned is interested in using some of the footage from the documentary for his own ESPN 30 For 30 project about the Missouri football teams’ role in the protests.

It is a little surprising to see that an ESPN “30 for 30” type of film may already be in the works for this event, which did not result in the players missing any games.
