Spring Meetings decision: New SEC rule makes Van Jefferson eligible immediately for Florida
Tennessee wasn’t the only potential winner of the SEC’s decision to change a rule, as Florida directly benefits from a new rule that not only makes receiver Van Jefferson eligible immediately in 2018, but discourages cheating from SEC football programs moving forward.
News of this rule passing was first reported by Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel.
The new rule, sponsored by Texas A&M and Florida, allows players that leave an SEC program hit by sanctions to transfer to another SEC program without sitting out a season. Due to the fact Ole Miss was hit with sanctions by the NCAA, that makes Jefferson eligible for the Gators next season. Jefferson has been on campus for months and competed in Florida’s spring football camp.
In two seasons for Ole Miss, Jefferson caught 91 passes for 999 yards and four touchdowns. He redshirted as a true freshman back in 2015. He was a four-star prospect coming out of high school.
