With breaking news of Will Muschamp’s imminent departure from Florida, local media wouldn’t be doing its job if it didn’t ask for Gators great Steve Spurrier’s take on the opening at his alma-mater.

Repeatedly, Spurrier’s said he’s not interested in coaching in Gainesville again. He reiterated his stance during Sunday’s teleconference following the Gamecocks’ overtime win at Florida and also refrained from answering a question pertaining to his interest on adding Muschamp to his staff in Columbia, S.C.:

Several reports have tied Muschamp to potentially replacing Lorenzo Ward as South Carolina’s defensive coordinator next season, but Spurrier’s had none of it. He’s expressed confidence in his defensive staff in recent weeks and all will be re-evaluated after the season.

The Gamecocks are last in the SEC East in total defense, but are coming off their best performance of the season after limiting Florida to less than 300 yards of total offense.
