Kentucky fans have had plenty to celebrate this season — nine wins, the program’s first appearance in the AP Top 25 in more than a decade and serious contention for the SEC East title.

But on Wednesday, Wildcats fans experienced quite the gut-punch.

Four-star running back Wandale Robinson, a hometown prospect who committed to Kentucky last month, has officially withdrawn that pledge and committed to Nebraska. Robinson tweeted his decision Wednesday with a disclaimer that is recruitment is “completely shut down.”

Robinson’s lengthy explanation indicates that he struggled with his college choice and faced pressure to stay in-state. Ranked by 247Sports.com’s composite ratings as the second-best player in Kentucky and the No. 2 all-purpose back in the nation, Robinson was the Wildcats’ highest-ranked 2019 commitment before he flipped to Nebraska.

It’s a huge blow for a program that took a massive leap forward in coach Mark Stoops’ sixth year. Robinson will instead use his talents for the Cornhuskers and second-year coach Scott Frost, leaving Kentucky fans to wonder what could have been if he had stayed home.
