Huge news out of Starkville as Willie Gay has made his decision: He’s staying home and playing for Mississippi State. The local linebacker is now MSU’s highest-ranked commit for 2017.

Gay announced his decision during a National Signing Day ceremony at Starkville high school. MSU saved some face and landed the best prospect from Starkville after failing to do so last signing day, when receiver A.J. Brown left Starkville to go play for Ole Miss. Gay’s commitment is somewhat ironic then, considering he was at one time an Ole Miss commit.

The 6-foot-1, 223-pound Gay ranks as a Top 75 overall prospect and the No. 3 outside linebacker prospect in the nation. Mississippi’s No. 2 overall prospect was also a member of the 2017 U.S. Army All-American Game.

Check out Gay’s high school highlight reel to get an idea of how well he will fits into Todd Grantham’s defense at the next level:

Mississippi State now has 24 prospects committed to its 2017 recruiting class, 13 of which are already on campus.
