The Gamecocks have enjoyed a busy recruiting Saturday, landing a second commitment on the day from in-state DE Tyreek Johnson.
Johnson (6-foot-4, 245 pounds) is the eighth commit for South Carolina’s 2017 class that is ranked No. 4 in the SEC and No. 14 nationally. The Sumter, S.C. prospect told Phil Kornblut of The State that he wasn’t expecting an SEC offer:
“It was very exciting,” Johnson said. “I was actually kind of surprised, to be honest with you. I wasn’t really expecting to get an offer from a big SEC school like USC. I feel kind of proud about myself because I know every game my family is probably going to be out there, cheering me on and supporting me.”
