Steve Sarkisian has returned Texas to the ranks of the elite. And it appears he’ll be staying with the program for the time being, even after receiving interest from the NFL.
Sarkisian and the university have agreed to terms of a contract extension, according to college football insider Brett McMurphy. McMurphy also reports that Sarkisian turned down a pair of interviews with NFL clubs in favor of remaining in Austin.
This is the second extension for Sarkisian in as many seasons. In January 2024, he inked a deal that would keep him at the helm of the program through 2030 while increasing his salary to $10.3 million for the 2024 season. That made him the 3rd-highest paid coach in college football, behind only Georgia‘s Kirby Smart and Clemson‘s Dabo Swinney.
His success with the Longhorns — back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances and a combined 25-5 record in the last two seasons — has apparently led to NFL teams looking to secure his services. His last NFL stint was with the Atlanta Falcons as their offensive coordinator in 2017 and 2018.
But it doesn’t appear the interest is mutual. Sarkisian will stay put for now as Arch Manning takes the reins at quarterback in 2025.
