Steve Sarkisian ended any speculation on Friday when he announced Texas’ starting quarterback.
The Longhorns coach said Quinn Ewers would take the first snap under center when Texas opens the season against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 3. Of course, Texas plays Alabama on Sept. 10. Hudson Card was also a QB competing to be the starter.
It was Card who was also a national recruit who won the job over Casey Thompson to start the 2021 season, but was replaced after a blowout loss to Arkansas.

Ewers is one of the more well-known young quarterbacks in the country, in part because of his name, image and likeness deals, and transfer from Ohio State. He also reclassified to the high school class of 2021. Ewers originally committed to Tom Herman’s program before he decommitted and enrolled early at Ohio State. Alabama and Auburn were reportedly among his final 6 schools during recruitment. Ewers reportedly had an endorsement deal in Ohio that paid him more than $1 million, however, Ewers only played only one snap of football last season as freshman.
Coming out of high school in Southlake, Texas (Carroll), Ewers was selected to participate in the 2022 All-American Bowl after he was ranked No. 1 nationally overall by 247Sports. In high school, he totaled 6,445 yards passing, 73 passing touchdowns and just 8 interceptions on 450-of-643 (70%) attempts.
