Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns advanced to the College Football Playoff semifinals next week after defeating Arizona State, 39-31, in a double overtime classic. The game appeared to be over in the 4th quarter after Quinn Ewers scored a 5-yard rushing touchdown to put the Longhorns up 24-8 with 10:17 remaining.
However, the Sun Devils wouldn’t go away, scoring the final 16 points of regulation to take the game to overtime. The first 5 games of the CFP have been non-competitive games, but this game delivered in a way college fans want every playoff game to.
After the game, Sarkisian and his team made sure to celebrate the big win with some fun in the locker room.
Ewers finished the game with 322 passing yards and 4 total touchdowns, including a 28-yard pass to Matthew Golden on 4th and 13 in the first overtime that allowed the Longhorns to tie it back up. Golden was the No. 1 target all day, as he finished with 7 catches for 149 yards and that score.
The Longhorns with the win advance to the CFP semifinals, where they will take on either the Ohio State Buckeyes or the Oregon Ducks.
