Steve Sarkisian joined Greg McElroy on ‘Always College Football’ to talk about the 2023 season. One thing Sarkisian was excited about was the Texas WR corps.
A lot of people are high on Xavier Worthy, but Sarkisian mentioned the supporting cast that the Longhorns have at WR. Players like Jordan Whittington and Isaiah Neyor have stood out to Sarkisian.
“When you challenge competitors, they rise to the occasion. And what I’ve seen out of Xavier Worthy has been phenomenal this offseason. He’s the most engaged I’ve seen him be since he’s been here. Jordan Whittington’s leadership, he’s kind of assumed almost that ‘Roschon Johnson role’ on our team, which has been great. And getting Isaiah Neyor back. This guy was a projected starter for us a year ago coming from Wyoming. He gets injured, misses the year and has kind of been forgotten. So that room is really solid.”
Texas will be looking to build on its 8-5 record from a season ago. Sarkisian snapped a four-game losing streak to Oklahoma in 2022. Texas also knocked off a Kansas State team that was ranked No. 13 at the time.
The Longhorns face Rice in their season opener on Sept. 2. Can Texas build on past success to cause more damage in the Big 12?
