Steve Sarkisian speaks to growth of Texas program from Year 1 to CFP berth

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns have cracked the Field of 4, coming in at No. 3 in the latest CFP rankings released Sunday afternoon.
The Longhorns won the Big 12 Championship and downed Alabama earlier in the year to develop a resume the committee simply could not ignore.
Following the reveal of the rankings Sunday, Sarkisian joined the crew at ESPN to discuss the Longhorns’ journey under his watch from 2021 to now. Here’s what he had to say.
“Year 1 was obviously extremely difficult for us, nobody likes to be 5-7 especially n0t at Texas. Year 2, we made some progress but we were still trying to find our way through some of those tight games and really build in our culture,” Sarkisian said. “As we got into Year 3 I just felt like there was such a belief and the culture is so strong now that I’m not surprised, I’m not surprised that this is where we’re at today. I know there’s more work to do, clearly this is going to be a heck of a challenge for us, but I’m so proud of our players because they bought in to what we brought.”

Texas will face off against Washington in the CFP semifinals. If the Longhorns can down the Huskies they will play the winner of Michigan vs. Alabama for the National Title.
One foot in front of the other, Longhorns.
