Steve Sarkisian is working on putting together the 2024 recruiting class for Texas, and the Longhorns landed a key in-state piece Saturday afternoon.

The player is Alex January, a 3-star defensive lineman out of Duncanville High School. Prior to his commitment, January generated a host of offers that included the likes of Florida State, Miami, LSU, Texas Tech, Georgia, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oregon, USC and others.

Now, he’ll join Texas and suit up in the SEC as a part of the 2024 recruiting class.

January is listed at 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds with elite size for the interior. His father — Mike January — played linebacker for the Longhorns in the 1980s.

According to the 247 Sports Composite, January is a 3-star recruit and the 47th DL prospect in the nation. He’s also the No. 77 player out of Texas for the cycle.

Texas’ 2024 recruiting class is now up to 10 commitments with plenty of work to do throughout the summer and fall. January is the first DL to commit to the Longhorns in the cycle.
