Steve Smith was always outspoken during his long and productive NFL career as a wide receiver, and now he’s taking the same formula behind the microphone in his podcast, 89 with Steve Smith Sr.

During his latest podcast installment, Smith had a particular SEC football target in mind, and he plays quarterback in Athens. Yes, it was Georgia starting quarterback Gunner Stockton, who led the Bulldogs to the College Football Playoff last season but who also apparently doesn’t measure up to Smith’s standards.

Appearing with football insider James Palmer, Smith had this to say about Stockton, who threw for 2,894 yards with 24 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions during his first season as the Dawgs starter:

“I am really perplexed, confused, delusional and just straight up frustrated because let’s just get straight down to it. I don’t know the young man’s name and I don’t want to, because the way I’ve watched him play quarterback, I’m irritated,” Smith said in his Stockton rant. “Goodness gracious, quarterback play from the Georgia Bulldogs, uh, awful. Dog doo-doo. As a wide receiver, I’m going on strike. I’m not working or running a route until I get a better quarterback. And holler at your boy when you get it. I’m out of here.”

Did we mention to Smith that Stockton also had 462 yards rushing and 10 rushing touchdowns in 2025 while leading the Bulldogs to the Playoff quarterfinals?

Georgia hopes that Stockton will prove Smith wrong this fall as he tries to lead the Bulldogs back to the College Football Playoff. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the top teams in the mix to be playing for the national championship come December:
