Steve Spurrier is taking his return to coaching seriously.
In a conversation with long-time college football journalist Tony Barnhart, Spurrier recently revealed that he had minor back surgery with the idea of being able to coach at full speed this spring. Spurrier signed on to coach the Orlando Apollos in the Alliance of American Football, a spring league that will feature players not currently on NFL rosters. The league is embracing that it could potentially help those players get back into the NFL.

Spurrier, 73, last coached in 2015 when he abruptly retired midseason at South Carolina. He has since returned to Florida where he serves as an ambassador for the athletic department.
Just got off the phone with @SteveSpurrierUF. Just had a minor back surgery so he can be at full speed to coach in the new Alliance of American Football this Spring. “Yep, we got to get another ball team ready.”
Don’t ever change, HBC.
