After thinking on it, it appears the Head Ball Coach has picked a side in the March Madness battle between his alma mater and the last team he coached. Spurrier told long-time Florida columnist and reporter Pat Dooley that he’s pulling for the Gators.

Spurrier had told former South Carolina WR Pharoh Cooper on Saturday that he would pull for the SEC East. He may have received some friendly nudging from folks in Gainesville. Last year, Spurrier returned to UF as an ambassador and consultant to the athletic department. He has an office inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, where the field was recently renamed to Steve Spurrier-Florida Field.

Between his statue outside the stadium, and commemorations for Spurrier’s 1966 Heisman Trophy and coaching the Gators to the 1996 national championship, one could call it “The House That Steve Built”.
