Steve Spurrier is 3-0 all-time in the Orange Bowl as a Florida player and head coach, so he was a fitting choice for honorary Gators captain at the coin toss of Monday night’s game between Florida and Virginia. Chris Long was the honorary captain for the Cavaliers.

On Tuesday, the Head Ball Coach took to social media to thank the fans in Miami Gardens, Florida for the warm welcome at Hard Rock Stadium. He called it the “loudest and greatest ovation” he has ever received.
To the Orange Bowl Gators before another Super Orange Bowl Victory… I want to thank the Gators for the best, the loudest and greatest ovation I’ve ever received in my life. Gator Nation you are the BEST! – Coach S.S.

After stepping away from college coaching, Spurrier returned to the Florida athletic department in July 2016 in an ambassador role. The Gator legend certainly enjoyed Monday night’s outcome, as UF stayed perfect in the Orange Bowl with a 36-28 win over ACC representative, No. 24 Virginia.
