According to 247sports’ Brandon Marcello, Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham underwent surgery to repair his left shoulder recently.

Marcello reported that Stidham is currently in a sling, but Gus Malzahn said he expects Stidham to return to action next month for the start of spring practice.

It’s unknown when or how long Stidham played with the injury. Auburn made an improbable late run to the SEC West crown after defeating No. 1 Georgia and then No. 1 Alabama in the Iron Bowl. After that, however, Stidham and the Tigers dropped the SEC Championship and the Peach Bowl.

Stidham elected not to leave school early for the NFL, which he announced after making a 3-day hunting trip. It’s unknown if the shoulder injury played a factor in his decision.

In his first season at Auburn, Stidham threw for 3,158 yards and 18 touchdown passes. He’s expected to be one of the top returning quarterbacks in the country in 2018.
