If the chips fall correctly for the Bulldogs, they could be SEC East champions by the end of the night. Hutson Mason and the ‘Dawgs stable of talented backs face an Auburn defense that has been nothing short of abysmal in the past month.
A win for Auburn, in conjunction with an Alabama win over Mississippi State, would set up an Iron Bowl in two weeks that again would carry SEC implications. A loss on Saturday night would almost surely eliminate the Tigers from defending its SEC West title.
For the second time in as many road games, Auburn is an underdog. The Tigers face a Georgia team that is home between the hedges for the first time in 42 days and gets its superstar back.
There have been questions about how Auburn will respond off an inexplicable loss. Despite the defensive woes and subplots, head coach Gus Mazlahn understands what his team faces.
“We’re playing a huge game this week against a very talented team,” Malzahn told AL.com earlier this week. “That’ll be our challenge. But I feel certain that our team will handle that the right way.”
