Super Bowl champ-turned-surgeon speculates on what may have happened to Tua Tagovailoa’s hip

Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa suffered what appeared to be a very painful injury during Saturday’s big win over Mississippi State.
He left the game before halftime, getting carted off the field. He was then reportedly airlifted to a hospital in Birmingham. It was reportedly a hip injury, not his ankle, which he’d had surgery on a few weeks ago.
On Twitter, Dr. Mark Adickes, a former Super Bowl-winning offensive lineman for the Washington Redskins, is now an orthopedic surgeon. He took to Twitter to speculate on what may have happened to Tua’s hip:
Video shows Tua Tagovailoa landing hard on right knee with defenders on his back. This forces ball out posterior socket. Leg then flexed & internally rotated. https://t.co/SX1q9M1gwg

Tua Tagovailoa injury similar to Bo Jackson injury. Hip subluxation/dislocation puts femoral head at risk of loosing blood supply and dying. Need to get hip back in place gently ASAP and remove pressure from joint.

Obviously, that sounds and looks incredibly painful, and could lead to a long recovery time if it is accurate.
We’ll learn more about the injury as the day progresses.
