We have some unfortunate news to share as Kansas City rookie linebacker Willie Gay will miss his first opportunity to play in a Super Bowl.
This comes after Gay injured his meniscus in a recent practice according to NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport.
“The Chiefs lost LB Willie Gay for the Super Bowl after he underwent surgery to repair his meniscus, source confirmed. A 4-month recovery, but he should be ready for 2021,” Rapoport reported on Friday.
In his first NFL season, Gay had racked up 39 tackles, three tackles for loss, in 16 appearances and eight starts for Kansas City.
The Chiefs selected Gay in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft after he registered 99 tackles, six sacks, three interceptions and one defensive touchdown during his three seasons at Mississippi State.
Kansas City is favored by three over Tampa Bay in Super Bowl 55, which is set to be played inside Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on Feb. 7, 2021.
