Surprise! Georgia flips Ohio State QB commit Dwan Mathis

This was a big surprise!

Heading into Wednesday’s Early Signing Period, Georgia was in search of a QB due to Justin Fields’ reported transfer. Having already had QB John Rhys Plumlee committed, the Dawgs were still looking for another signal caller to join him in this class.

Georgia made a late push for Texas A&M QB commit (and Georgia native) Zach Calzada, but the Aggies held off the Bulldogs inking Calzada Wednesday.

However, the Bulldogs found their second QB by flipping Ohio State commit Dwan Mathis. Mathis, from Belleville, MI, had been committed to the Buckeyes since June 24, 2018, but the Dawgs’ last minute offer was too much.

Mathis is rated a 4-star prospect and ranked as the nation’s No. 9 pro-style QB and the state of Michigan’s No. 7 overall prospect, per 247Sports Composite Rankings. He’s listed at 6-foot-6 and 205 pounds.
