College Station is in for a battle on Saturday as the Mississippi Rebels ride into town coming off their first win over a top-ranked team in program history. The Rebels have a defense built to slow down the Aggies offense, and an offense capable of finding ways to win. Get to know some of the most important Ole Miss players.
- QB Bo Wallace: The senior is coming off one of the best performances of his career, a mistake-free day against Alabama in which he threw for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wallace is the second-leading passer in the conference, averaging more than 300 yards per game. He is known to make some poor choices with the ball and has thrown 6 interceptions so far this season.
- WR Laquon Treadwell: Wallace’s favorite target is a threat to break a defense on every play. He has the speed to get behind the secondary, as he did twice against Memphis, and the strength to break through tackles like he did for his score against Alabama. Treadwell has 25 catches for 362 yards and 4 touchdowns to date.
- DT Robert Nkemdiche: The sophomore defensive tackle doesn’t put up huge numbers — 12 tackles and a sack so far — but don’t let that fool you; he’s one of the most destructive forces in the SEC. Nkemdiche bullies linemen and requires multiple blockers if you hope to contain him. The way Kenny Hill has struggled with pressure, the Aggies might consider bringing in an extra blocker.
- S Cody Prewitt: A senior leader on a young, hungry defense, Prewitt has stated his case as one of the best safeties in the nation. He’s third on the Rebels in tackles and has a nose for the ball. He’s big for a defensive back at 6-foot-2 and 217 pounds, and has the ability to give receivers trouble.
- CB Senquez Golson: The SEC’s leader in interceptions came up with a huge one last week, sending Alabama home with a game-sealing pick late in the fourth quarter. Golson will be one of the keys in slowing down the Aggies passing attack. His ability to take receivers one-on-one and to play close to the line will be crucial if the Rebels hope to disrupt Texas A&M’s rhythm.
