Taylen Green on motivation from Bobby Petrino: ‘He sees greatness in me’
Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green appears to have taken a major leap in 2025. The fifth-year dual-threat passer looks poised in the pocket and explosive as a rusher.
In offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino’s opinion, Green’s talent is a blast from the past. On Sunday, the former Louisville head coach tweeted a picture of Green’s impressive hurdle from Saturday’s win over Arkansas State with another iconic college football photo: Lamar Jackson against Syracuse.
Such a comparison feels outlandish on the surface, but Green’s play so far suggests otherwise. And Tuesday afternoon, the Arkansas quarterback revealed the standard to which Petrino is holding him is no different than the one he held Jackson to at Louisville.
“[Coach Petrino] sets me to that [Heisman] standard every single day. Whether it’s my footwork or my fundamentals throwing the ball… every single day, he holds me to that standard. He sees greatness in me,” Green told SportsCenter. “He’s gonna let me know when I’m not hitting that standard and when I am. I definitely love Coach Petrino… he demands perfection and greatness out of me.”
Through 2 games, Green leads the FBS in touchdown passes (10) and the SEC in Passing Efficiency Rating (205.5). For him to truly make waves in the Heisman race and climb NFL Draft boards, though, he’ll have to produce at this clip versus foes a bit more legitimate than Alabama A&M and Arkansas State. His first chance to do so comes Saturday, when the Razorbacks travel to No. 17 Ole Miss. Kickoff against the Rebels is set for 7:00 p.m. E.T. on ESPN.
