Tempers flare between Oklahoma, Texas prior to Red River Rivalry
In case you weren’t aware, Texas and Oklahoma don’t like each other.
The Red River rivals — and their respective fans — wait all year for their annual trip to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Ahead of Saturday’s meeting between the 2 teams, the action got started well before kickoff.
As both teams were leaving the field after pregame warmups — they use the same tunnel — there was jawing back and forth. Coaches had to get in the middle of players at multiple spots to prevent a skirmish.
Oklahoma is 5-0 and ranked No. 6 in the nation. Texas, the preseason No. 1 in the AP poll, has lost 2 of its first 5 games to drop out of the rankings entirely. The Longhorns are desperate for a win to change the trajectory of their season, and the Sooners are likely relishing in the Longhorns’ dismay.
Not that a pregame meeting between the 2 teams needs any reason. They hate each other. Sometimes that’s all it takes.
Regardless, Saturday promises to be a hotly contested game. The 2 sides have split the last 4 meetings. The Texas wins have been demoralizing — a 49-0 win in 2022 and a 34-3 win last year.
