First-year Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt continues to add familiar faces to his first Volunteer coaching staff as the Vols have landed former Florida State defensive assistant coach Bert Biffani.

A Florida State grad, Biffani worked under Pruitt in 2014 when the Seminoles won the last BCS National Championship by defeating Auburn in the Rose Bowl. Biffani has been on the FSU staff the previous five seasons, working with the defensive ends and outside linebackers.

Considering he is familiar with Pruitt’s defense, not to mention Tennessee’s special teams coordinator/safeties coach, and former FSU defensive coordinator, Charles Kelly’s methods, Biffani should help ease the transition of the defense in Knoxville — which is soon set to begin on the practice field. Having another experienced coach who is familiar with the defensive concepts that will soon be implemented on the field could prove to be invaluable for Pruitt, as he won’t have the time to spend all his attention on a single position group this spring, much less the entire defensive unit.

Biffani announced his hiring Tuesday morning on Twitter:
