On Friday, it was reported that Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop had visited Tennessee’s campus.
A day later, Shoop has come to an agreement to become the Vols’ new defensive coordinator.
Shoop just completed his second season as the Nittany Lions’ defensive coordinator/safeties coach after spending three seasons in the same position under James Franklin at Vanderbilt.
Penn State finished 14th in the FBS in total defense this season, only allowing 324.5 yards per game, after finishing 2nd in the same category last season.
The Commodores finished among the top 25 teams in total defense in each of Shoop’s three seasons in Nashville.
Tennessee coach Butch Jones and then-DC John Jancek unexpectedly parted ways on Wednesday after Jancek’s third season guiding the Vols’ defense.
