Tennessee football recruiting update: Where the Vols’ class stands as of July 2023

Tennessee football has had a strong week on the recruiting trail, adding verbal commitments from 5-star WR Mike Matthews and 4-star LB Edwin Spillman.

“Massive” doesn’t do the situation justice for Josh Heupel and Co. The Vols are recruiting at a high level under Heupel, a concern among some fans when he was first hired in early 2021. But 2 and a half years later, the Vols are right there with some of the best in the country, and they’re not showing any signs of slowing.

The Vols are ranked No. 11 in the country per 247Sports’ team rankings, just behind Texas A&M for a spot in the top 10. Tennessee is one of just 9 programs across the country to hold a commitment from a 5-star prospect in the Class of 2024 (Matthews).

Currently, Tennessee holds commitments from 18 prospects: One 5-star, eight 4-stars and nine 3-stars.
