Tennessee has landed a commitment from Charlotte (N.C.) Myers Park guard Bishop Boswell.
Coach Rick Barnes and the Volunteers beat out Missouri, Georgia, Wake Forest, and Xavier for Boswell’s verbal pledge. The 4-star combo guard took an official visit to Tennessee earlier this month and made his commitment known Thursday during a live announcement ceremony on the 247Sports YouTube page.
“I think a big part was the head coach, Coach Barnes, obviously his track record and just how he develops his players,” Boswell said when asked why he picked UT. “On the court he’s going to be tough, he’s not gonna give you a lot of compliments but he’s gonna get the best out of you, and then immediately when it’s over, off the court he’s gonna hug you and tell you he loves you. He had a big part, along with the rest of the coaching staff.”
Boswell is a big, physical guard who brings a football background to the hardwood. He’s 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, with the ability to play off-ball or run an offense. He led his Myers Park team to the North Carolina 4A state championship this past season and led Team CP3’s backcourt on the EYBL circuit.
In the industry-generated 247 Composite, Boswell is a 4-star recruit and the No. 65 overall prospect in the class of 2024. He’s the seventh-ranked prospect from the state of North Carolina and the 10th-ranked combo guard.
Boswell is switchable on the defensive end, and brings a slashing mentality to the offensive end. He’s also a capable shooter, as he connected on 35% of his 3s on the EYBL circuit, giving him some tools as an off-ball scorer.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
