Tennessee’s defense came up clutch in a big moment early on against Alabama on Saturday.

After Alabama’s first 2 drives failed to produce any points, it looked like the Crimson Tide were about to finally get on the scoreboard late in the first quarter.

On 2nd and goal from the 3-yard line, Milroe threw up a jump ball to Ryan Williams in the corner of the end zone, but was woefully off target. The poor attempt was picked off by Jermod McCoy and returned to near midfield.

For Milroe, it’s the continuation of a concerning trend that has started to creep up during SEC play. This is his 5th interception across less than 4 full games against SEC opponents so far in 2024.

The big play by McCoy kept the game scoreless and allowed Tennessee to re-gain some momentum after a tough start for Nico Iamaleava. Tennessee ended up settling for a field goal on its ensuing drive, which was missed.

Both teams have already lost 1 SEC game this season, meaning this contest has significant College Football Playoff and SEC title game implications.
