A familiar face is reportedly returning to Tennessee. According to Blake Toppmeyer of the Knoxville News Sentinel, Scott Altizer is expected to join Josh Heupel’s staff.

Altizer has most recently been the deputy athletics director at Charlotte. He joined the Charlotte program after 20 years at Tennessee working under former Vols coaches Phillip Fulmer, Derek Dooley and Butch Jones.

Altizer got his start at Tennessee in 1994 as a graduate assistant in the football recruiting office. He worked various positions related to Volunteers recruiting and player personnel, holding titles of director of football relations, director of high school relations and coordinator of football operations. Altizer also worked with Thornton Academic Center and UT’s undergraduate admissions office.

Toppmeyer points out that Brandon Lawson connects Altizer to Heupel. When Lawson was a football personnel administrator at Tennessee, he worked with Altizer. Lawson was UCF’s director of player personnel the past three seasons and is reportedly following Heupel to Tennessee.
