The peak of the holiday season in college football means that teams around the country are gearing up for the transfer portal window that will officially open on January 2nd and run through the 16th.
The quarterback market figures to be very busy once again this offseason, with several top programs all expected to be on the hunt for a new signal caller heading into their respective offseason programs.
Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers will be on the hunt for a new gunslinger with Joey Aqguilar’s eligibility being exhausted, and reports have surfaced that the Vols are expected to pursue TCU’s Josh Hoover.
According to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos, Tennessee will be one of the programs in the mix to land Hoover, who announced his intention to enter his name into the transfer portal this past Thursday.
A 2-year starter with the Horned Frogs, Hoover racked up 3,472 yards, 29 touchdowns, and threw 13 picks in 2025, rating out as one of the top quarterbacks in the Big 12.
He will have 1 year of eligibility remaining for whatever school he ends up transferring into, which means that he could serve as the perfect bridge between Aguilar and highly touted 5-star signee Brandon Faizon in Knoxville if he does end up choosing to join the Vols.
