After five years at Tennessee, wide receiver Brandon Johnson is going to finish his college career elsewhere.

On Monday, Johnson announced on Twitter that he has entered the NCAA transfer portal. He still has another year of eligibility, as all players were given an extra year due to the uncertainty of the 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Johnson joined the Vols in 2016, having been a 3-star recruit out of American Heritage School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He’s appeared in at least four games for them each of the past five seasons.

Johnson’s best season came as a sophomore in 2017, when he had 37 receptions for 482 yards (both career highs) and a touchdown, the lone receiving score of his college career thus far.

In 2019, Johnson played in four games before deciding to redshirt so that he could return in 2020. Before sitting out, he scored his second career touchdown on a punt return against Chattanooga.

This season, Johnson has 19 receptions for 231 yards in nine games. He had 73 receiving yards in Tennessee’s season opener at South Carolina on Sept. 26, but he hasn’t had more than 40 in a game since.

Johnson announced his decision to enter the transfer portal with a heartfelt statement:
