The No. 15-ranked Tennessee Volunteers are gearing up for their first true test of the 2025 season against the No. 6-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, and they’ll reportedly be doing so without two of their key pieces on defense.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Volunteers will reportedly be taking on the Dawgs at home while missing both of their starting corners in Jermod McCoy and Ricky Gibson.

Per Thamel, McCoy is still recovering from the ACL tear he suffered back in January, while Gibson will also miss an extended period of time while working back from an undisclosed injury he sustained in the Vols’ week 1 win over the Syracuse Orange.

Head coach Josh Heupel will now be forced to once again roll with Colorado transfer Colton Hood and true freshman Ty Redmond in place of his two veteran starters, a combo that also took the field this past Saturday against the East Tennessee State Buccaneers.

Hood has been very solid while taking over for McCoy, actually leading the SEC in pass breakups so far with 5, and Redmond looked good in his first career start against ETSU.

They’ll be facing an entirely different beast in Georgia this weekend, however, so it will be very interesting to see whether or not the pairing will be able to hold up against an elite grouping of Bulldog wideouts.
