Tennessee is No. 11 in the country and will be in action on Thurday night when the Volunteers play the Virginia Cavaliers. However, the team will be missing guard Cam Carr for an extended period of time, according to reports.
Carr suffered a thumb injury during the second half of the game against Austin Peay on Sunday. He has been a solid role player for Tennessee this season, as he is averaging 4.8 PPG in just over 10 minutes a game.
His injury puts a dent into the depth of Tennessee, but the Volunteers have 1 of the best and experienced group of wings in all of college basketball. It is a senior-led group with Jordan Gainey, Chaz Lanier, Jahmai Mashack and Zakai Zeigler all averaging at least 25.5 minutes per game. Ziegler is 1 of the best point guards in all of college basketball, as he averages 15.5 PPG, 7.8 APG and 1.8 SPG.
The Volunteers are down to only 10 scholarship players, which could make the upcoming tournament a challenge to their depth. Tennessee and Viginia tipoff at 9:30 p.m. ET at the Baha Mar Convention Center in the Bahamas. The Volunteers will also play on Friday against either No. 13 Baylor or No. 22 St. John’s.
Cam Carr will miss four to six weeks with a left thumb injury.
