Jalin Hyatt is off to a strong start in 2022 with 18 catches for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns. Hyatt is the Volunteers’ leading wide receiver through the first 3 games. This season is especially rewarding after some early-career struggles, which is why he always makes sure to celebrate TD catches with wide receiver coach Kelsey Pope.
Hyatt credits Pope with helping him get through rough patches.
“(Pope) was there last year when I was struggling, when I felt like things weren’t going right for me last year,” Hyatt told reporters. “When he was here as an analyst (last year), he was always trying to get my confidence back, help me as far as with my game. I’m really grateful for that guy. I love Coach Pope.
“I think he’s the best receivers coach in the country. Anybody, as far as recruits, if you want to come to a program where you get the ball, spread it out, this is the place for you. Like I said, Coach Pope, he did a lot for me. All the hard work he did for me is starting to pay off.”
