Almost two months after announcing he is leaving the Tennessee Volunteers and heading to the transfer portal, it appears Amari Jefferson’s college football career may be coming to a close.
The former UT and Alabama wide receiver posted Wednesday night on his Instagram the phrases ‘Everything and More’ and ‘Goodbye football’ with a heart emoji. The photographs on the Instagram post featured Jefferson playing football as a kid, in high school, at Alabama and with the Vols.
The rising redshirt sophomore began his career at Alabama in 2024 but missed the entire season with a hip injury and took a redshirt before hitting the portal and heading to Tennessee. Despite a thin Vols WR room, Jefferson was unable to gain any traction in 2025 – logging just two snaps against both ETSU and UAB and recording no official stats.
A four-star prospect by 247 Sports Composite out of Baylor School in Chattanooga, Jefferson was also a star high school baseball player and top prospect on the diamond – actually committing to play baseball at Tennessee for former coach Tony Vitello before choosing the football route.
Jefferson’s Instagram offers a potential clue into his future, as the athlete recently changed his profile picture on the social media platform to one of him playing baseball. Rocky Top Insider first reported the news of Jefferson’s Instagram posts.
