Tennessee WRs coach’s tactic played role into Jalin Hyatt’s production

Jalin Hyatt has been among the most impressive players in college football this season and that has everything to do with just how reliable of a target he has been for potential Heisman Trophy quarterback Hendon Hooker.

Something that has played a role into his success has been the things Vols wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope has done on the practice field.

Pope challenged his receivers to catch 10,000 balls from the Jugs machine each month back in June and July, ahead of the season. Hyatt exceeded that number by a decent margin as he caught about 14,000 each month, according to Pope.

So far this season, Hyatt totals 40 receptions for 769 yards with 12 touchdowns. He averaged nearly 20 yards per catch. It’s safe to say Pope’s strategy did the trick as Hyatt continues to garner more attention and certainly has an NFL career ahead of him.
