LSU head coach Brian Kelly is reportedly being fired following a 5-3 start to the 2025 campaign. Now more details are starting to emerge about internal issues that Kelly had with LSU.

According to college football insider Matt Fortuna, tensions between Kelly and athletic director Scott Woodward arose over the future of offensive line coach Brad Davis.

This stemmed from a meeting between Kelly and Woodward today. The report says that after Woodward requested Kelly fire offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, the head coach stated he would also let go of Davis. Per Fortuna, that message did not go over well with Woodward.

The 38-year-old Sloan is in his second season as LSU’s offensive coordinator. He’s come under fire because of LSU‘s lackluster offense that ranks 82nd nationally in points per game (25.8).

Meanwhile, the 45-year-old Davis has been LSU’s offensive line since 2022 after previously serving as the Tigers’ interim head coach in 2021 after Ed Orgeron stepped down prior to the Texas Bowl. Under Davis’ direction this season, LSU’s running game has struggled with just 106.3 yards per game (124th nationally).

Now that Kelly is reportedly being fired, LSU will aim to use the upcoming bye week to restore order with a road game at rival Alabama next up on Nov. 8.
