Mississippi State has a new defensive backs coach, and he’s homegrown.

Terrell Buckley, who’s been Louisville’s defensive backs coach for the last two seasons, told the Sun Herald in Biloxi, Miss., that he’ll be joining Dan Mullen’s staff.

Buckley will be filling the spot on the prorgram’s staff that was vacated when Tony Hughes was hired at Jackson State last month.

Buckley’s exact role with Mississippi State, which will be his first job in the SEC, isn’t clear at the moment. He may serve in Hughes’ capacity as a safeties coach/recruiting coordinator.

Buckley was a first-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in the 1992 NFL Draft, and he went on to enjoy a 14-year career that included a Super Bowl ring. He was on the New England Patriots team that began the dynasty in Super Bowl XXXVI with a dramatic 20-17 win over the St. Louis Rams.
