A coveted linebacker from the ACC is joining the Longhorns, who are retooling in search of a breakthrough season next fall.
On Saturday, former Pitt linebacker Rasheem Biles told multiple outlets that he has committed to Texas. The 6-foot-1 rising senior will have 1 season of eligibility remaining after spending 3 seasons at Pitt.
Biles appeared in 9 games as a true freshman in 2023, mostly on special teams. Still, he led the nation and tied a Pitt program record with 3 blocked punts. He blocked more kicks than he made tackles.
In 2024, he broke out on defense, starting 9 of his 12 appearances while producing 82 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 9 pass breakups, 1 interception — which he returned for a score — and a forced fumble. Biles was an All-ACC Third Team selection for his efforts.
This past fall, he produced 101 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 4 pass breakups, 2 interceptions — both of which he returned for scores — and 2 forced fumbles. Biles was named to the All-ACC Second Team. He was also the highest-graded linebacker in the ACC by PFF, and the 12th-highest-graded linebacker against the run in the country.
It’s a massive get for a Texas team that is reshaping its defense in pursuit of a national championship run in 2026. Texas had a hole at the position, too, following the NFL Draft declaration of Anthony Hill Jr. Biles fills a need and gives the Longhorns one of the top-rated players in the portal.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
