Texas A&M’s schedule was impacted by the Pac-12’s Friday announcement that it is going to a conference-only schedule for the 2020 season. The Aggies were scheduled to host Colorado on Sept. 19 in College Station.

In a statement posted to his Twitter account, Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork shared that he was personally informed of the Pac-12’s decision. He also addressed the possibility of adding a new opponent to the schedule.

“I appreciate the phone call from my friend and fellow AD, Rick George at Colorado, for sharing the news about the Pac-12’s decision,” Bjork’s statement reads. “We understand these decisions are not easy and fully appreciate the changing environment around us. This is yet another example of the fluidity around college sports and we remain diligent as we gather accurate information about what lies ahead.

“Finding available opponents for Texas A&M to play football in 2020 is not the biggest challenge. Playing in the safest environment possible remains the obstacle and we are focused on the health and safety of our student-athletes. As we learn more, we will communicate accordingly.”

Bjork and the other SEC athletic directors will reportedly meet Monday in Birmingham to discuss the conference’s plan for the fall athletic season. Currently, Texas A&M is scheduled to play Abilene Christian (Sept. 5) and North Texas (Sept. 12) in the first two weeks. The Aggies are scheduled to open SEC play on Sept. 26 against Arkansas in the Southwest Classic.
