The Texas A&M Aggies saw their season come to an end a couple of weeks back when they dropped a heartbreaking 10-3 first-round playoff loss against Miami in front of a sold-out Kyle Field. Head coach Mike Elko isn’t stopping to lick his wounds following the disappointing early CFP exit, though, as he’s already making moves to bolster his staff heading into the January transfer portal window.

Defense seems to be where Elko is focusing most of his attention heading into the new year, as the Aggies just announced the addition of former Arkansas defensive coordinator Travis Williams as A&M’s new linebackers coach and associate head coach of defense.

A 2-time All-SEC linebacker for Auburn in the mid-2000s, Williams has spent the past decade bouncing around the SEC as a defensive assistant, with a 2-year stint as the defensive coordinator at UCF from 2021-2022 also included on his resume.

He spent the previous 2 seasons as the DC at Arkansas under head coach Sam Pittman, but was let go mid-season alongside his former boss after the Hogs’ abysmal 2-3 start to the 2025 campaign.

Things didn’t pan out for Williams in Fayetteville, but he’ll now have an opportunity to bounce back while coaching one of the best defenses in the entire country as the newest addition to the Aggies’ coaching staff.
