Texas A&M defensive starter, leader Anthony Hines III opts out a week before season opener

The hits keep coming for Texas A&M’s team ahead of the 2020 season.
Less than a week before the season opener against Vanderbilt, Texas A&M starting linebacker Anthony Hines III has opted out of 2020. He shared the news from his personal Twitter account.
“This year has been a wild ride to say the least,” he wrote. “With everything taking place in the world right now, from the pandemic, to the blatant injustices being committed towards people of color, it’s difficult to be 100% locked in to the game of football right now. I can’t help but see this time as an opportunity to try and make a difference in my community. With that being said, I have chosen to opt out of the 2020 football season.”
Just Saturday, Jimbo Fisher commented on players who have opted out prior to the start of the season for Texas A&M, leaving them a pathway to return.
“You have to move on, because you have to plan without them. … The ability to come back is always there. And I think it has to be, because sometimes they make a decision and realize later on, ‘Hey, maybe I don’t want to do that.’”
Hines III joins wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon in TAMU difference-makers who have opted out before the start of the season.
The talented linebacker started all 13 games for the Aggies in 2019, and he finished second on the team with 73 tackles.
