Texas A&M has arrived in Houston to get ready for the Texas Bowl on Friday against Oklahoma State. It was revealed Sunday that the Aggies will only have one scholarship running back.
Reporters observed the absence of Cordarrian Richardson from Texas A&M’s practice. Jimbo Fisher confirmed that Richardson did not make the trip.
“He’s not here,” Fisher said of Richardson. “He’s just not here with us.”
Fisher did not explain the absence but indicated Richardson is not off the team in a brief clip Tex Ags shared on Twitter:
Per Jimbo on running back Cordarrian Richardson’s absence from the team during bowl workouts…
* He’s not in Houston.
* He won’t be in Houston all week.
* He’s not suspended.
* He’s still with the team. pic.twitter.com/NTIOg6uxQl— TexAgs (@TexAgs) December 23, 2019
Earlier this week, it was reported that Aggies RB Jashaun Corbin had entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. Texas A&M’s only available scholarship running back for the game will be freshman Isaiah Spiller, who has rushed for 869 yards and 9 touchdowns and added 207 yards as a receiver. Backup quarterback turned running back Connor Blumrick will be the RB2 option for the Aggies, per Alex Miller of the Dallas Morning News.
The game is set for a 5:45 p.m. CT kickoff and will air on ESPN.
