The No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies could be without a key defender Saturday afternoon against Auburn (3:30 pm ET, ESPN), as linebacker Scooby Williams has been downgraded to doubtful according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
The senior from Birmingham, Ala., was injured in the first half of Texas A&M’s 41-40 victory 2 weeks ago against Notre Dame and missed the entire second half. He appeared to be limping noticeably after coming up with an interception of Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr.
Redshirt sophomore Daymion Sanford filled in for Williams against the Fighting Irish and recorded one of the Aggies’ two sacks in the game.
Williams was originally listed as questionable to play against Auburn in the mid-week injury report, but coach Mike Elko reportedly wants to ensure that the linebacker can contribute for a full 60 minutes if he is to play.
Williams has recorded 5 solo tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and an interception for Texas A&M this season. Williams transferred to the Aggies from Florida in 2023 after three seasons in Gainesville.
